Quartzite Falls (often called Quartzite River Falls) is a scenic, compact waterfall on the Slate River in Baraga County, Michigan, roughly 11 miles east of L’Anse and near Skanee. The falls are 8 feet high, and the river drops in a crescent onto a flat slate slide into a deep pool framed by cedar trees.
When visiting Quartzite Falls and Slate River Falls, we came across this unique rest area that had a picnic table, fire pit, and benches to sit on. When we went, someone had left behind some buns. We didn’t take the chance of eating them though.

- Access: Reached via a short, easy walk through a cedar forest from the road.
Directions
- From L’Anse, head east on Main Street, which becomes Skanee Road.
- Turn right (south) onto Arvon Road and drive about 3.4 miles.
- Turn left onto an unmarked dirt road near the wooden logging bridge.
- Park near the bridge and follow the short trail downstream along the river to the falls.
